Zebo blasts Folau’s views amid interest from Toulon
IRELAND international Simon Zebo has reacted bluntly to speculation he could be up against Israel Folau next season in the Top 14.
Folau, currently plying his trade in rugby league with Catalan Dragons, has been linked with Toulon, rivals of Zebo’s Racing 92.
The prospect of facing Folau, who holds controversial beliefs over religion and sexuality, has not gone down well with Zebo, who says people like Welsh international referee Nigel Owens are far more influential when it comes to rugby’s inclusivity message.
“Not on the same team, definitely not,” Zebo said when asked on Rugbypass Offload about the prospect of sharing a field with the fallen Australian star.
“If he is playing opposite me there is nothing I can do. I wouldn’t let my team down by not playing.
“I have no time for that (Folau’s beliefs), no time for any of his thoughts or things like that. It’s an unbelievably backward type of mentality. It’s a shame. He’s such a talented guy, but I have a serious issue with that.”
