Takeaway shut down after staff refused to wear PPE

-

A TAKEAWAY business in West Wales has been shut down by the local council because staff ignored calls for them to wear personal protective equipment on multiple occasions.

Officers from Ceredigion Council first issued a premises improvement notice on Paradise Pizza, in Aberaeron, on January 15.

It was made clear to the business at that point that it was expected to take reasonable measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

This included making sure that staff wore personal protective equipment such as face coverings.

However, council inspectors returned to the pizza business twice last week and have decided to take further action.

A spokeswoman for Ceredigion Council said that, after officers had issued the improvement notice earlier in January, they had “since witnessed staff failing to wear face coverings on multiple

occasions, in contravention of their advice”.

As a result, Paradise Pizza was ordered to close on Wednesday afternoon with an official notice which read: “I, an authorised officer of Ceredigion Council, consider the closure of the above-named premises is necessary and proportionate for the purpose of minimising the risk of exposure to coronavirus.”

The business must now remain closed for 28 days – until February 23 – or until public protection officers at Ceredigion

Council are satisfied that the issues witnessed have been addressed.

A spokeswoman for Ceredigion Council added: “Monitoring inspections have shown that the majority of Ceredigion’s retail premises are complying with the restrictions placed on them during the pandemic.

“Ceredigion Council’s public protection team will continue to take action against businesses who fail to comply with the coronavirus restrictions.”
