Tuesday morning, January 26, witnessed the Pontyberem GP surgery launch of the anti-covid vaccination programme for residents aged 80 and over in the memorial hall. Contacted recipients would be inoculated on the following Friday and Tuesday mornings.
Community charge held For the second consecutive year the Pontyberem Community Council annual rate charge has been frozen. Despite greater pressures on council finances due to such as cancelled events with loss of Memorial Hall income and park events called off due to lockdown, councillors united to avoid placing extra strain on local household finances due to the pandemic and prospective above inflation county council rate rises. As in 2019 and 2020 this year’s Band D annual community council precept tax remains at £113.24. Birthday greetings Pontyberem Over 50s Club, via the secretary, has sent birthday wishes for February to Brenda Stubbs and Eirlys Morgan.
Rubbish cleared Residents in Ffordd Aneurin who had complained of rubbish left in their street have welcomed action by county councillor Liam Morgan-bowen in resolving the problem.
Priority postbox For the rising number of villagers applying for UK Government Covid home-testing kits the completed packages should be placed in the postbox outside CK’S supermarket and not taken into the post office itself. Covid volunteers Liaised by the community council, more shopping volunteers are sought to help deliver groceries and/or medicines to the Covid vulnerable. While there are a number of volunteers at present doing great service more assistance would be much valued. Post Office times Located in CK’S Supermarket the Pontyberem Post Office operates seven days a week from 8am to 8pm with a lunch break between 12.30pm and 1pm.
