100th birthday! Congratulations to Basil Smith who celebrated his 100th birthday last week. Mr Smith has been a tennis enthusiast all his life and, until the onset of the pandemic, he still played every week at Swansea Tennis Centre and with Llandybie Tennis Club. In interviews, Mr Smith said he was often asked the secret of living a long life and advised people to look after themselves and to take opportunities to help others.
Local vaccinations The recent ‘drive-thru’ Covid vaccine clinic at Cross Hands Health Centre for patients over 80 years old is reported to have been very successful. Over 360 patients were vaccinated. Last week, people aged 70 to 74 years old and those identified as clinically extremely vulnerable were to be invited to make appointments to receive their first dose of the vaccine. Patients are asked not to phone for vaccination information but to wait to be contacted. You can refer to the surgery website and Facebook page for information about developments. (Letters were to be sent by Hywel Dda UHB to all people aged 75-79 years old in the area asking them to make an appointment at one of the mass vaccination centres).
Patients are asked to enquire about other health issues by telephone. A doctor or
other health professional will still be there to advise you, either over the phone or, if needed, in person. You can also use an online consultation service; you complete a series of questions online and a doctor will review these. You may be advised to contact the surgery or the surgery may contact you by email, text or telephone. Prescription requests should be placed in the letterbox of Meddygfa’r Tymbl or in the box at Cross Hands Surgery.
