43 Brandyway, Pontyberem. 01269 871955 keithevans806@btinternet.com 80th birthday greetings At the start of the month Joy Williams, retired school teacher and former Pontyberem county and community councillor, celebrated her 80th birthday. Family and friends have sent her their congratulations and best wishes on this happy occasion.

Local digital poverty It has been reported to the community council that ‘some 20% of Pontyberem children’ during the pandemic lockdown of schools do not have digital resources to take part in learning from home. Village councillors are considering possible aid to ease the crisis.

Vaccination programme The next inoculation roll-out for notified vulnerable individuals against Covid-19 is set to take place this Thursday in Pontyberem Memorial Hall. It is understood that problems of vaccine supply have recently been encountered.

Resident concerns A number of Gwendraeth Row residents have contacted County Councillor Liam Morgan Bowen following a marked increase of people walking along the private road, some expressing fear of leaving their homes as a result. Councillor Bowen publicly undertook to check whether the rise in walkers, possibly exercising due to lockdown restrictions, were following the three designated footpaths in this part of the village. Improved public safety Iron grids have been installed beneath the Recreation Park bridge by the community council to prevent anyone being swept along the open culvert during downpours out into the Gwendraeth Fawr river.

Priority postbox For the rising number of villagers applying for UK Government Covid home-testing kits the completed packages should be placed in the postbox outside CK’S supermarket and not taken into the post office itself. For further details on the home tests visit gov.uk Covid volunteers Liaised by the community council, more shopping volunteers are sought to help deliver groceries and/or medicines to the Covid vulnerable. While there are a number of volunteers at present doing great service more assistance would be much valued. To use the home delivery service or to offer help please contact the community clerk on 07415 355659.
