Tumble Family Centre recently held a Zoom focus group meeting to discuss ways to secure the future of the centre. The centre has been closed to comply with pandemic regulations although staff continued giving online support to families for some time. Unfortunately, all the centre’s funding from grants has ended, both play workers have left and the remaining employee, the manager, is on flexi-furlough. The centre hopes that, once able to open, it can continue to offer 21 hours of support for pre-school/toddler groups/families over three days.

It would also like to widen the use and scope of the centre; this would generate income and expand its role in the community. The manager says the centre has an enclosed garden and has recently been renovated with a new kitchen. It is central in the village, near the cycle track, has good parking and is on the edge of the Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park. Upper Gwendraeth Valley Food Bank is available to people who live in the Gwendraeth Valley from Ponthenri to Gorslas. It can support anyone who has been affected economically by the Covid-19 pandemic. For example, someone who is unemployed or self-employed and waiting for benefits or who has lost income because of reduced hours could be eligible. Dry food parcels are distributed from Tumble Hall on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Any donations of nonperishable items such as tinned vegetables, tinned meat, pasta, rice, noodles and toilet roll, would be gratefully accepted and may be left at the hall. Contact Sue James, Llannon Community Council’s development officer, who will give you more information about this food bank and others in the area, on 01269 841213.
