Police tributes to ‘hero’ colleague
A MEMORIAL service has been held for a police officer who was killed when her bicycle was in a collision with a van on the A40.
Sergeant Lynwen Thomas, who was 37, died after the crash on the A40 west of Carmarthen on Thursday evening. Tributes have flooded in for Sergeant Thomas, a former pupil at Ysgol Bro Myrddin, who was described as a “well-respected police officer”. On Monday, a memorial service was held at police headquarters in Carmarthen to pay tribute to a “selfless woman” and “a hero”.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail.
A MEMORIAL service has been held for a police officer who was killed when her bicycle was in a collision with a van on a dual carriageway in Carmarthenshire.
Sergeant Lynwen Thomas, who was 37, died after the crash on the A40 west of Carmarthen last Thursday evening.
In the days following her death, tributes have flooded in for Sergeant Thomas, a former pupil at Ysgol Bro Myrddin, who was described as a “wellrespected police officer”.
On Monday morning, a memorial service was held at Dyfed-powys Police’s headquarters in Carmarthen to pay tribute to a “selfless woman” and “a hero”.
Flowers were laid at the Memorial Garden outside the headquarters building and a period of silence was held by members of Dyfed-powys Police, including police and crime commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn, retired force chaplain Tom Evans, temporary chief constable Claire Parmenter and chief inspector Elaine Bendle, who read a poem entitled ‘For Lynwen.’
Speaking at the service, temporary chief constable Claire Parmenter said: “As a police family we mourn Lynwen’s untimely passing. With thanksgiving we recall the joy that Lynwen shared with us, that joy we will for ever cherish; the memories of her will never die.”
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident on Thursday, which happened on the westbound stretch of the A40 near Bancyfelin, between Carmarthen and St Clears, at around 6.40pm.
