A CARMARTHEN SHIRE schoolboy is running the length of the Wales Coastal Path to raise money for the town’s Glangwili Hospital and Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Kieran Andrews, 15, from Ferryside, is running the coastal path’s 870 miles while juggling his GCSE studies.

What started as a virtual run has now grown into running in the great outdoors due to the easing of lockdown.

As of last week he had passed the 200-mile mark and had even run parts of the path itself in North Gower between Landimore and Penclawdd, along with runs near his home village and the path alongside the River Towy linking Carmarthen and Johnstown.

Burry Port Harbour has also been a running location for the eager youngster.

Kieran said the aim

was to get fit while giving back to the hospital and health board for all the selfless hard work they are doing in the Covid-19 crisis.

Kieran said: “During this pandemic and throughout the lockdown, I have taken up running to help with my wellbeing and fitness.

“I decided to join a challenge to run the entire coastal path of Wales. It started out virtually due to the Covid19 lockdown but now I’m out there running.

“The challenge is 870 miles and must be done within a year but I want

to push myself to do quicker.

“This means without fail I must run every day at least three miles, come rain, wind or snow, whatever is thrown at me.

“I also need to fit it in around schooling and GCSES.”

Kieran, who is a pupil at Carmarthen’s QE High School, said it was a huge personal challenge and just finishing it would be an achievement in itself.

He added: “I also thought it would be a great way to give back if I can raise just £1 per

it mile, I could raise £870 for Glangwili.

“It’s a small token of thanks for all they have done and continue to do throughout this pandemic and beyond.

“So if anyone can spare a small amount of money please sponsor me and it will also boost me on the cold, wet runs.

“I will keep everyone updated on my journey across virtual Wales.”
