Cadet successes In a recent virtual awards ceremony, half a dozen local Dyfed youngsters were appointed as the Lord-lieutenant Cadets for 2021. Among their number was Cadet Sergeant Sam Barrett from Ammanford, appointed by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for Dyfed, Miss Sara Edwards. Meanwhile, Ammanford Air Cadets are currently running a recruiting drive, open to youngsters aged 13 (or 12 when starting school Year 8), up to 17 years old. A joining waiting list has already been started for when the go-ahead to safely reopen is given after a frustrating year of lockdowns. Betws Community Council news

July 5 it will be NHS Social Care and Frontline Workers Day. Communities are being encouraged to join in this unique day of celebration and commemoration of those who worked so hard, sometimes seven days a week without thought for their own safety, over the past year. To participate, people are being asked to join in a two-minute silence at 11am. The nation’s toast will be at 1pm and afternoon tea at 4pm. The ringing of church bells 73 times, to signify 73 years of the NHS, will follow at 8pm. Local communities can take part if they wish as a tribute to all those who work so tirelessly on the front line.
