Musician helps health causes
A MUSICIAN is blowing his own trumpet – or saxophone, rather – all in the name of charity.
Steve Simmons, more commonly known as Steve Sax, 55, has been a professional musician all his life since he picked up the sax as a teenager.
Inspired by the huge fundraising effort of the late Sir Captain Tom Moore, Steve has decided to post a song a day for 100 days to raise money for two causes.
A Justgiving page has been launched and Steve has already posted the first few songs on his Facebook page, where he records himself playing saxophone.
All money raised will go towards Oakwood Children’s Ward at Swansea’s Morriston Hospital and Calon+.
Steve, from Swansea, said he was spurred on to post a song a day for 100 days after seeing a breakfast TV interview with the family of Sir Captain Tom Moore.
He explained: “He did so much good with his walking fundraising that his family were speaking on TV encouraging people to do something and help raise money for charity.
“It was sort of carrying on Captain Tom’s spirit and determination.”
