Salver joy for Thomas

CARMARTHEN Golf Club seniors played for their first formal competitio­n of the year, the Bill Naylor Salver 1.

There was another excellent turnout of 82 players and as in previous weeks the scoring was of a very high standard.

Adrian Thomas claimed a fine victory with an excellent 42 points.

In second place was Peter Ashley Jones with 41, followed by Graham Williams, who beat Robert Jayes on countback with

39.

There were also four scores of 38 and two of 37. Twos were recorded by Stuart Barclay, Mick Fenney, Robert Jayes, Gary Evans, Graham Williams and Jeff Williams.

This week the seniors played a stableford competitio­n, and a field of 85 were led home by Garry Richards with an excellent 43 points.

He was followed in second by Clive Thomas who fired a solid

41.

Peter Ashley Jones in third continued his fine run of form by beating Alan Lewis on countback, with both scoring 40 points. In fifth was Ray Sinden on 39, with Ray Harley sixth on

38.

Another three players came in with 37 points, while twos were recorded by John Bevan, Huw Eynon, Wynne Thomas and Malcolm Rees.

The seniors play a fun competitio­n this week in the form of a three-man Texas Scramble.
