LLANDEILOBASED Red Dot Finance Group have taken on a long-term commitment to the town’s food hub scheme via their customer reward scheme.

Red Dot donates £40 for every policy customers take out with them and each customer can pick the Llandeilo Food Hub to receive the donation.

Dyfed Lloyd-jones and Stephanie Jones from Red Dot visited the hub where they met with Christoph Fischer and volunteers to find out more about the services of the hub and what it means to the community.

The hub, which was launched at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic last year, now prepares food parcels for up to 100 families.

As the volunteers know these people by now, they are making up the parcels tailored to the individual needs.

Bosses said it is hoped to develop the food hub into a food education hub, teaching families to cook economically and how to budget.

Stephanie Jones at Red Dot said: “At Red Dot we believe that communities are at the heart of everything that we do, and we would like to give a little something back.”

Hub volunteer Owen James said: “We’re really grateful. Red Dot already made everyone’s Easter by donating chocolate eggs for our families and now they are coming forward again with an even bigger gesture.”

The Covid-19 Support Group is collecting food families’ every day of the week between 2pm and 4pm at the rugby club at Cae William, Llandeilo.

The hub also accepts monetary donations if people are unable to visit a drop-off point.

Anyone wishing to do so can contact the hub directly should they wish to make a financial contribution.

Christoph Fischer, food hub leader, said: “Particularly needed are meals for single people, be that ready meals or tinned meat or fish, in addition to pasta sauces, pasta, bread, tinned soups, gluten-free products, toiletries.

“Everything can and will be used given the high number of people we support.”

Back in February the town vowed to continue helping one another long after the pandemic is over.
