Man in hospital after collision
A MAN has been airlifted to a Cardiff hospital after a head-on crash with a crane.
The collision happened on the A485 in Carmarthenshire at around 8.20pm on Monday.
According to police, one car was towing another vehicle behind it when it crashed into a crane on the rural road between the villages of Alltwalis and Llanllwni, south of Llanybydder.
The road was shut in both directions for several hours, only reopening at around 5.45am on Tuesday.
Three people in total were injured as a result of the crash – two males suffered minor injuries, with one being taken by ambulance to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen. One man, meanwhile, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted in a Wales Air Ambulance helicopter to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called on Monday at 8.30pm to reports of a road traffic accident on the A485 near Llanybydder. We responded with one rapid response vehicle, two emergency ambulances, one Basics doctor and our crews were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. A patient was transported to Glangwili Hospital, another patient was transported by air ambulance to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and a third patient was discharged on scene.”
Dyfed-powys Police is now appealing for information regarding the crash. A spokesman for the force said: “We were called to a collision on the A485 between Alltwalis and Llanllwni at around 8.20pm on Monday. One car, which was towing another car, was involved in a head-on collision with a crane.
