Man in hospital after collision

A MAN has been airlifted to a Cardiff hospital after a head-on crash with a crane.

The collision happened on the A485 in Carmarthen­shire at around 8.20pm on Monday.

According to police, one car was towing another vehicle behind it when it crashed into a crane on the rural road between the villages of Alltwalis and Llanllwni, south of Llanybydde­r.

The road was shut in both directions for several hours, only reopening at around 5.45am on Tuesday.

Three people in total were injured as a result of the crash – two males suffered minor injuries, with one being taken by ambulance to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen. One man, meanwhile, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted in a Wales Air Ambulance helicopter to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

A spokeswoma­n for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called on Monday at 8.30pm to reports of a road traffic accident on the A485 near Llanybydde­r. We responded with one rapid response vehicle, two emergency ambulances, one Basics doctor and our crews were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. A patient was transporte­d to Glangwili Hospital, another patient was transporte­d by air ambulance to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and a third patient was discharged on scene.”

Dyfed-powys Police is now appealing for informatio­n regarding the crash. A spokesman for the force said: “We were called to a collision on the A485 between Alltwalis and Llanllwni at around 8.20pm on Monday. One car, which was towing another car, was involved in a head-on collision with a crane.
