Civic congratulations At their meeting on June 10 Pontyberem community councillors unanimously resolved that a letter of congratulations be sent to Johnny ‘The Ferret’ Clayton on his recent triumph at the World Darts Championship.

Seven up Following a decade of local concerns about recurrent anti-social behaviour by an array of council tenants at a block of flats on a corner of Brandyway, the Carmarthenshire housing section has now put up seven CCTV cameras at the premises. Despite years of police raids, fire service attendance to malicious incidents and numerous complaints without resolution by housing officials it seems now no public expense has been spared to not only purchase and install the cameras but pay for the job costs for their maintenance, management and monitoring for security. Erosion concerns continue Inquiries by Pontyberem community council continue, as from last year, into when and what action Carmarthenshire Council engineers will take to arrest the ongoing river erosion of the embankment skirting the community park car park. Action was promised from April and then indicated for this month, but so far all that has been done during June thus far has been to put up more warning signs for public danger awareness. Apology from Azerbaijan As usual councillors who cannot attend a meeting send in their apologies. Rarely in its 102 years of existence can apologies received at Pontyberem Council on June 10 have come from over a thousand miles away as sent by Liam Morgan Bowen. The Plaid Cymru county and community councillor for the village was busy in Baku, Azerbaijan, in his full-time employment as one of the S4C broadcast team covering Wales’ national soccer team games in the Euros on the Caspian Sea coast.
