TECH THAT THE LATEST IN THE DIGITAL WORLD

NEW WINDOWS OPENING SOON?

Microsoft famously said Windows 10 would be the last numbered update to its operating system when it launched six years ago.

Since then we’ve had incremental upgrades to what has become the most popular operating system in the world.

By 2018, Windows 10 had passed Windows 7 in popularity to power almost 80% of Windows PCS across the globe. In fact it powered 60% of PCS full stop.

But now Microsoft has set up a special event, streaming online, to showcase “the future of Windows”.

All the signs are pointing towards the launch of Windows 11.

Microsoft has already said it’s working on a new version of its app store for Windows, and is teasing big changes in the user interface for this upcoming release.

The company’s CEO Satya Nadella said last week that the upcoming update is one of the most significant of the last decade.

So, whether they call it Windows 11 or not, something big is coming – and when Windows changes, it affects an awful lot of people.

We don’t have long to wait to find out what’s coming – the event is scheduled for Thursday, June 24.

POLAROID ON THE GO

Those of you who are, like myself, all in favour of sprinkling a little analog technology through our digital world will be delighted by Polaroid’s latest adventure. The new Polaroid Go is the smallest instant camera the company has ever made.

It’s a lovely looking device that’s take-anywhere – Polaroid is even putting out some straps that mean you can actually wear the thing.

It churns out instant snaps that feature the iconic Polaroid look – the white borders with a wider one at the bottom. The prints are a lot smaller than you get from a standard Polaroid camera at just over two inches wide… but that makes them all the more adorable.

The camera is available for £109.99 stand-alone, and double packs of colour Go film with 16 prints in each are £18.99.
