TOWN FACE AWAY START

O’leary set for busy first week

-

CARMARTHEN Town have been handed an away start when the new JD Cymru South season gets under way.

Kris O’leary’s men will make the trip to Pontypridd Town on Saturday, July 24.

It will be the Old Gold’s first competitive fixture since March 2020, when all sport came to an abrupt halt as the coronavirus emergency began to take hold.

It will also be Town’s first game outside of the top tier of Welsh football since 1996.

They were relegated from the JD Cymru Premier when football was halted despite having several matches yet to play because they were in the relegation places.

Club bosses accepted the decision – though it did not sit well with them – and they will have hopes of promotion back to the top flight sooner rather than later.

Carmarthen’s first home game of the season comes the following Tuesday – July 27 – when Llantwit Major make the trip to Richmond Park (7.30pm).

And their first home Saturday fixture of the campaign comes on July 31 when they host Risca.

Their first derby of the season comes on August 20 when they head to Stebonheath Park to take on Llanelli Town, with the return game scheduled for April 2.

The two games against Ammanford will be played over the festive period. Carmarthen make the trip to The Rec on December 27, with the return at Richmond Park set for New Year’s Day.

Ammanford have a mouthwatering start to the season with a trip to Llanelli on July 23.

They host Briton Ferry Llansawel on July 27 and entertain Taffs Well on July 30.

The home game against Llanelli is on April 23.
