Cup glory for Lincoln, while A side win in Bowl

IT was a busy week for the seniors from Carmarthen Golf Club.

Firstly, captain Huw Rees took a team of seven pairs to Tenby for a friendly, and although they lost 5-2 this did not reflect the closeness of the match,

Rees and partner Peter Collins enjoyed a fine 3&2 win, but Gary Evans and Steve Redding came up against a strong pair and lost 5&4.

All the remaining games went to the 18th hole.

The pairs of Mike Davies and Jimmy Crawford and Paul Mccall and Bruce Morris managed halves, but Haydn Harries and Bob Jayes, Jeff Harries and Ken Gealy, and George Laidlaw and Aled Owen all lost 1 down.

This week’s seniors competitio­n was for the Glyn Knight Cup.

An excellent field of 84 golfers was headed by Rob Lincoln with an outstandin­g 43 points, the platform for which came via two early birdies.

He was followed by Ken Gealy with 41 points and in third was Peter Jones with 40.

Four golfers were tied on 39, and in order of countback they were Ryan Bowen, Tim Harries, Alan Lewis and Wyn James.

Twos were recorded by Martin Fink, Alan Lewis and Danny O’sullivan.

This week the seniors play for their championsh­ip in the form of a medal round off the white tees.

The seniors’ A team were handed a tough draw in the South Wales Classic Bowl at Creigiau on the edge of Cardiff, but the team performed exceptiona­lly, with Peter Williams and Alan Lewis leading the way with a 5&3 win.

The second pair of Adrian Thomas and Eirian Evans lost 3&2, leaving Tony Jones and Haydn Harries in the deciding match and they were well up to the task as they clinched an outstandin­g 6&5 win.

Their reward is a home draw against in the next round against Tata Steel Golf Club.

However, the B team face another tough draw in the Cup at Pennard.
