Pink silage trailer turns heads for cancer charity

- IAN LEWIS Reporter ian.lewis@walesonline.co.uk

A ST Clears family business is putting in the miles to raise money for cancer – literally.

Agricultural contractors Davies Brothers’ base is turning heads on roads in the area with its brightly coloured pink silage trailer.

Sadly, family member Jane Davies – whose husband Huw runs the business with his brother Lyn – was diagnosed with cancer for the second time last year.

When it came to buying a new silage trailer that’s when the idea to have it coloured pink and emblazoned with the words Cancer Research Wales and the web address to a fundraising Justgiving page was sparked.

Jane’s brother-in-law Lyn said: “Huw was asked what colour he wanted the new trailer in and he said, ‘You can paint it pink with black spots, I don’t care what colour it is’.

“So that’s when we thought about actually having it in pink and raising money for Cancer Research Wales at the same time.

“It’s been very popular, we are contractors and are always at different farms in the St Clears and Carmarthen area and people are really enjoying seeing it on the roads.

“We turned up at a farm in Llangain, near Carmarthen, and they made a donation straight away after seeing the trailer.”

The initial aim was to raise £5,000 but already the fundraising has rocketed above £12,000.

Lyn added: “Huw’s wife, Jane, unfortunately had the news last year that her cancer had returned, her strength through treatment and her determination through life has amazed not only our family but also the people in our community.

“We have chosen to raise money for Cancer Research Wales as it covers and helps people suffering with every different type of cancer.

“Everyone has been affected by cancer in many different ways, be it yourself, a member of family or friend. By raising money for this fantastic charity it helps families receive better treatment, early diagnosis and they give families affected by cancer hope.

“A donation, no matter how big or small, will mean helping those who are affected by or have in the past been affected by cancer.”

Look out for the pink trailer on a road near you soon, and the Justgiving page can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thepinktrailer
