Used syringes dumped Police were urgently summoned on June 21 to inspect and remove used syringe and needles dumped along the lane linking Heol Y Felin to Brandyway and Ffordd Aneurin. The lane is regularly accessed by children, from the adjacent Pontyberem primary school and accompanied toddlers. Thanks to the quick thinking of an observant walker from Brandyway the danger posed by the items was swiftly removed that afternoon a couple of hours before school home-time. Police are investigating the incident. The public are asked to ring the police on 999 if they discover similar drug syringes and needles along public routes. It is understood police inquiries are ongoing.

Shadows Depression Group The Ammanfordbased Shadows depression therapy group began holding bi-weekly sessions in the Memorial Hall in May. With a link between the Coalbrook Road surgery and the mental health charity patients with depression have been referred for sessions. The service is open on application to anyone in the area experiencing bouts of depression. “This is a most vital and welcome development,” said Cllr Keith Evans, a member of the Hywel Dda University Mental Health Board. “Shadows one to one counselling has been growing since it started conducting its sessions in the Memorial Hall on alternate Fridays. The Covid pandemic and attendant isolation and anxiety has brought the incidence of depression to a critical mass; this is especially true for the smaller communities such as ours who do not have ready access to psychological facilities.” To find out more either contact the village surgery on 01269 870207 or Shadows on 07587709899 or 07543741788 or email shadowsdepressionsupportgroup.pco.uk Chemist times Monday to Friday trading hours of the local pharmacy are 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm.
