Evans the hero as Llandysul remain in the hunt for title

LLANDYSUL remain firmly in the South Wales Cricket Associatio­n division one title hunt after comfotably defeating Dafen Welfare by 63 runs.

The victory means they are just three points behind leaders Maesteg at the halfway point of the season.

After winning the toss, Llandysul made 150-9 in their 50 overs. Steffan Jones top-scored with 34. Dafen’s Ian Capon took 2-7 from his six overs.

Matthew Evans was the only Dafen batsman to reach double figures in their reply, the opener making a patient 31 as the visitors were all out for 87.

But Llandysul’s Evans was the star of the show as he returned the excellent figures of 7-20 after a superb spell.

Gowerton are back in fifth place after winning by 11 runs in a lowscoring encounter at Llangennec­h.

Skipper Mathew Mason topscored with 36 as Gowerton were all out for 134.

Owain Phillips took 3-19, with Michael Jones, James Taube and Jack Page claiming two wickets each.

But Tom Clarke proved to be Gowerton’s hero, taking 5-27 as Llangennec­h were dismissed for 123.

Mason took 3-11 as Nathan Richards made 21 for the home side.

Baglan remain in firm control of the division two title race after beating visiting Drefach by 60 runs.

Baglan opener Yakoob Ali hit eight boundaries in a fine 52 as his side were all out for 160. Leigh Davies took 4-28.

Rob Seymour (39) was the only Drefach batsman to make an impression against the home attack as the Gwendraeth Valley side were dismissed for 100. Craig Jewell and John O’leary both took three wickets.

Felinfoel crashed to a heavy 140-run defeat at home to Aberdare.

The visitors made 198-8, with Thomas Rees scoring 50 and Richard Warren 46.

Gareth Smith shone with figures of 4-50.

Felinfoel’s batting faltered completely in reply – Taylor Bamford top-scored with 16 – as they were all out for 58.

Mike Roberts took 4-10 and Matthew Griffiths 3-23.
