CHAMPS BACK AT THE SUMMIT

-

REIGNING champions Kidwelly Town returned to the top of the Llanelli and District League Premier division with a convincing maximum-points win over Graig Merthyr.

They leapfrogged Havelock Park, who returned only three of the available 14 points on their visit to Parc y Dre.

Llanelli’s confidence was high after beating Graig in a midweek match at Old Road, but they were brought back to earth with a 45shot loss at Dafen Welfare, failing to take any points in the process.

Having endured a poor start to their league season, Carmarthen returned their first winning score this year by beating Ammanford Park in the bottom-of-the-table clash, winning on three of the four rinks.

Burry Port’s midweek win at Gorseinon kept them at the top of division one, but they are being closely followed by Loughor, who are just three points behind them with a game in hand.

Gorseinon bounced back at the weekend with a win over Calsonic Wanderers at Llethri Road.

It was Calsonic’s first loss of the year, but they remain in touch with the teams above them.

Ty’rfran leapt to the top of division two with a three-rink win at former leaders Llangennech & Bryn, whose two points see them in second place.

They are just ahead of the inform Parc William.

Crusaders recorded their largest shots win this year against a shorthanded Pontarddulais and look likely to jump up the table when they complete their abandoned match against Ty’rfran, as they already hold a big lead from the ends that have been played.

On Sunday and the following Tuesday, Carmarthen County teams return to action after a twoyear break.

The Championship team head to Beaufort, Ebbw Vale, on Sunday to face Monmouthshire and the Senior Championship team visit Vale of Glamorgan at Bridgend Municipal green on Tuesday.
