Trots ladies celebrate a golden day at Pembrey

TAF Running and Orienteeri­ng turned out in force for the Welsh Athletics Road Relay championsh­ips, combined with the Run Wales Relays, held at Pembrey Country Park.

This incorporat­ed the Welsh Masters Road Relays, with teams in age categories from 35 up.

The two F55 teams won gold and bronze medals, and the gold medal-winning trio of Lindy Eynon, Mary Anthony and Mel Holliday posted an aggregate time that placed them third overall in all of the female Masters teams.

All three ladies have competed for the St Clears-based club for more than 20 years. Eynon is one of the club’s longest-standing members, having joined soon after it formed in 1988. First to go, she posted the fastest time in this category of 23 minutes 40 seconds for the 5.5km course and was well within the top quarter of all the female competitor­s.

Now 61, she continues to improve on her performanc­es at all distances from 5km upwards and hopes to lower her half-marathon personal best later this month.

The team finished more than 11 minuted ahead of second-placed Les Croupiers, while the bronze medal-winning team of Jayne Evans, Karen Bowman and Mair Morgan were a further four minutes adrift.

The Trots open men’s team of Aled Jones-davies, Dewi Snelson, Luke Evans and Ben Hutchinson finished 13th and the Masters M45 team of Anthony Dew, Kevin Bean and Richard Phillips were fifth.

Trots fielded seven teams in the Run Wales relay, a race of three legs of 3km.

Jonathan Williams, Mark Lee and Andrew Russell were second and Sian Davies, Kate Lynock and Joanne Bowes finished third.

In sixth were Yvonne Davies, Caron Mckee Hands and Alys Williams and in ninth were June Warren Jones, Abigail Edwards and Ron Anthony.

Bethan James, Angharad Dew and Morfydd Davies took 11th and

in 12th were Liz James, Pauline Thomas and Emily Edwards.

In 13th were Irene Davies-jones, Glyn Anthony and Leanne Mcfarland. Maisie Foster finished sixth in a field of 25 in the under-11 girls’ race.

Julian Lewis ran the Brighton Marathon, finishing in three hours 48 minutes.
