Man reportedly attacked by three dogs is named

THE man killed when he was reportedly attacked by three dogs in West Wales has been named as John William Jones.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of the 68-yearold.

He died after an incident at a property in Lampeter in Ceredigion on Monday evening, January 10.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerousl­y out of control and a police investigat­ion into the death is now under way.

A spokeswoma­n for Dyfed-powys Police said: “We are currently investigat­ing the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the death of a man at a property in Lampeter. Officers were called just after 5pm, Monday, January 10, to a report that a man had been bitten by dogs resident within the household. Sadly, a man in his 60s passed away at the scene.

“A woman was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerousl­y out of control. She has been released under investigat­ion pending further police inquiries.

“The three dogs involved did not fall under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and have been removed from the property.”

One neighbour said of the incident: “The street was filled with police cars – I’ve never seen so many in this town. There was blue flashing lights all night.”

Lampeter deputy mayor Helen Thomas added: “It is terrible tragedy. It has been a shock to us all in the community and the police are keeping us informed.”

The attack is understood to have happened close to Lampeter rugby club in the heart of the town.

Club secretary Gary Davies said: “There were police cars there all night. It is a terrible tragedy for everyone involved and our thoughts are with them.”
