Quiz night returns The weekly quiz night has restarted in the Castle Inn and teams of up to six people are allowed. Start time is 8pm and is scheduled to finish around 10pm. Each team member pays £2 and the winners take all the money. While social distancing rules remain in place it is a case of first come, first served.
The HWB Unfortunately it was not possible to recommence this weekly social event as planned but as soon as restrictions are lifted it will be up and running once again. It is an opportunity for new residents to get to know others in relaxed and friendly surroundings.
WI meeting This first meeting of the year was notable for being the first ever to be held in the afternoon and was a resounding success with 21 members present. The 2022 programmes and membership booklets were distributed with the hope that this year we can enjoy all the events on offer. Excellent feedback was given on the Christmas dinner at the Old Board School, names for the County 200 club were taken and the goody bag questions answered. Several members contributed their opinions on the five resolutions shortlisted and each individual vote counts. However, the overwhelming majority supported the proposal that the WI should raise awareness of the issues facing women and girls who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These are often under-diagnosed, under-identified, misdiagnosed and under-supported in women and girls. On a sad note, president Helen Bowen Morgan announced the death of former county secretary, county advisor and a frequent speaker at our meetings, the very talented Mair Stephens. Mair was a familiar face across Wales and will be very much missed. Our speaker Ann Iorwerth combined advice on dietary essentials and the importance of keeping mobile and encouraged all to participate in an exercise routine aimed at improving balance, flexibility, strength and stamina. The importance of abdominal breathing as well as thoracic breathing was emphasised. Ann was very warmly thanked by Helen. The meeting ended with a toast to the new year and the hope that it will be a more enjoyable year free from restrictions.
