CLUBS ALL SET FOR RESTART

-

THE three West Wales clubs in JD Cymru South will all play their first games of 2022 this weekend.

Following the Welsh Government’s ruling on the resumption of outdoor sports, Llanelli Town, Carmarthen Town and Ammanford will return to action as the league restarts.

Llanelli face an away trip to Llantwit Major on Saturday (2pm).

Carmarthen and Ammanford are back in action a day earlier. The Old Gold, who were on a fine unbeaten run ahead of the decision to halt league games, head to Rhondda side Cambrian & Clydach on Friday evening, while at the same time Ammanford welcome winless Port Talbot Town.

The Reds have recruited three new players during the transfer window, with all the newcomers former products of Swansea City’s under-23 squad.

James Murphy, Jake Thomas and Ryan Bevan will make their debuts when the Reds begin their season again, and should prove to be valuable additions.

Carmarthen have also been active during the January window as they look to build on their impressive pre-christmas form.

The Richmond Park club have signed Sean Pemberton, who has spent the last nine seasons at Haverfordwest County.

The 36-year-old made 259 appearances for the Bluebirds and twice helped them win promotion to the Cymru Premier League.

He played last Saturday for Carmarthen Town Reserves in their top-of-the-table clash against Ammanford in the South West division of the FAW Cymru Reserve League. Town’s excellent 4-1 win puts them three points clear at the top.

Carmarthen have also signed attacker Charlie Davies from Briton Ferry. The 21-year-old former Haverfordwest player represented Wales Academies at under-18 level.

Both Llanelli and Carmarthen will restart their home programmes the following week.

The Reds host Undy on Friday, January 28, with a 7.30pm start.

And the following day Carmarthen entertain Cwmbran Celtic. It will be their first game since boss Sean Cresser was named manager of the month for December.*
