Porthyrhyd and Llanddarog Pensioners Society

-

ANGELA welcomed 40 members to the first formal meeting of the society since March 2020 in Llanddarog Village Hall on February 1.

Angela thanked everyone for their support as friendships were renewed. Apologies were taken from five members. New members Jean Thomas, Gillian Issacs, Joan Evans and Helen Thomas were warmly welcomed. Marion read the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved and signed by Angela.

Sadly we had lost three members since our afternoon tea last September, namely Angela Knott, Sylvia Lewis and Tony Biddle. Members stood in respect and sympathies sent to their respective families.

Two members had celebrated their 90th birthdays, namely Alquin Phillips and John Thomas, who were congratulated accordingly.

Vilna announced our president Kim Davies had yet again given a substantial donation to the funds, which was greatly appreciated, and Marion confirmed a thank-you card had been delivered to Kim.

We look forward to a visit to the Lyric Theatre for the Carmarthen Youth Opera’s production of Grease on 26th of this month, when the coach will leave Tumble Garage at 12.45pm to collect members, arriving in Llanddarog at 1.10pm approximately.

Members were reminded by Vilna that a Covid pass would be required at the theatre and a face mask. A list of the members wishing to attend was read for confirmation.

Angela then proposed the following activities for meetings:

March 1: To celebrate our patron saint, pancakes to be served by John and a talk by Angela on the Welsh costume to be followed by a singalong with Marie Seymour at the piano.

April 5: A guest speaker regarding honey and its producers.

May 3: A day trip to Swansea area, Brangwyn Hall, Klein Gardens and Gower.

June 7: A day trip to a chocolate factory, to Carew and possibly Pembroke Dock.

July 5: AGM followed by a strawberry tea.

September 6: Brecon Mountain Railway and Merthyr.

Egwad has been trying to arrange a holiday break to North Wales in May but has found it difficult with so many places/hotels being fully booked but will continue to pursue the matter.

Tea was then served accompanied by shortbread biscuits kindly supplied by Enid and Wyn and the raffle drawn, the prize generously donated by Keith Knott.

The meeting was concluded following social time.
