WIS Sir Gar back on the road after two years

-

IT has been two years since the last weekend trip to London for Sir Gar Carmarthenshire Federation of WIS and it was well worth the wait.

Nema Edwards and Dawn Webb from the arts and leisure sub-committee have been working hard to ensure the trip went without a hitch. Members going were kept informed with all the Covid-19 rules in both Wales and England and this was followed to the letter. This meant all felt safe on the coach, in the hotel and going around London.

There was a mixture of WI members and friends, 46 in total, and they made for a very friendly bunch. The trip left Carmarthenshire on Friday, January 21 and stayed for two nights in Kensington, which was very central for sight-seeing, museums, the theatre, restaurants and the odd bit of shopping. Some members took up the offer of a guided tour of the Churchill War Rooms on the Friday afternoon while other went to the theatre or a walk around Kensington gardens and a visit to see the statute of Diana, Princess of Wales, in the sunken garden of London’s Kensington Palace.

Saturday was a free day for members to enjoy more sites and sounds of what London has to offer. Afternoon tea at various venues in Kensington and Knightsbridge was a big draw to many members and even a few items of food at Fortnum and Masons for the food lovers on the trip.

Sunday the coach left for home but before we returned to Wales we had one more stop at Bourton-onthe-water for lunch, shopping or stretching legs with a walk along the river.

Thank you to everyone who work hard to arrange this short break and roll on next year when we can buy more Earl Grey tea at F&M.
