TROSTRE STAY ON CUP TRAIL

-

PREMIER division champions Trostre AFC kept the flag flying for the LTC Mobility Carmarthenshire League with a solid 2-0 win at home to Morriston Town in the fourth round of the West Wales Intermediate Cup.

Although their opponents play at a higher level in the West Wales Premier League, Trostre are a class act and went into the tie knowing they had nothing to fear.

And it was Trostre who controlled most of the game, goals from Jamie Jenkins and Christopher Price Williams giving them a place in the last eight.

It took 120 minutes plus penalties to settle the outcome between St Clears and visiting Loughor Rovers. After the game ended 1-1, it was the Pembrokeshire League side who won the shootout 3-2 thanks to William Evans, Jason Jones and Dorian Evans.

Yet it was Loughor who started the stronger, Darian Burt giving the visitors the lead to make it 1-0 at halftime.

The home team rallied and equalised through Nico Setaro to send the tie into extra time.

Also knocked out of the competition were Pontarddulais Town, who crashed 3-0 at home to Swansea side Rockspur.

The visitors thoroughly deserved victory and took control through goals from Ashley Barkley Lewis, Jamie Miller and Gareth Morrell.

A goal from Clayton Jenkins wasn’t enough for Bwlch Rangers, who lost 5-1 in the away tie against South Gower, while Adam Campbell and Nathan Jones netted for Seven Sisters Onllwyn in their hard-fought 2-1 win at home to Giants Grave. Morgan

Freeman replied for Giants Grave.

It was a stroll in the park for cup favourites Penlan Club, who again looked impressive in a 5-0 win at home to Glais.

The remaining teams will want to avoid Penlan, who pulled clear through goals by Sam Lewis, Nathan Lewis, Cory Charles, Dale Otten and Darren Rowe.

It also needed penalties to separate Carew and visiting Hakin United in the all-pembrokeshire League tie. Hakin won the shootout 4-3, with Ben Aldred scoring the winning penalty.

A couple of goals from Shane Walsh helped Hakin force extra time, while their other three penalty scorers

were Ashley Bevan, Gareth Fawcett and Cameron Thomas.

It left a skeleton programme in the Carmarthenshire League, and in the only game played in the Premier division there was a 12-0 win for Pontlliw at home to Trallwm. Striker Liam Mccann treated himself to five of the goals.

Felinfoel were crowned champions of division one after a 2-0 defeat of Johnstown. Chris James and Jordan Badman netted.

For drama, nothing came close to matching the clash between Kidwelly Town and visiting FC Carmarthen.

After using all their substitutes, the visitors were left with 10 men for the last 20 minutes following an injury to

Marcus Bryan. So trailing 1-0 with just two minutes left, you could be excused for thinking it was game over.

But FC Carmarthen had other ideas, with Josh Bennett grabbing an unlikely equaliser in the 89th minute. And there was more drama in the 94th minute when they were awarded a penalty.

Tom Walters made no mistake with the spot-kick to earn his team a 2-1 win.

Bancffosfelen and Pwll Athletic shared a 3-3 draw. Marcus James, Ian Williams and Darren Blake scored for Pwll.

In the best of the action in division two, Dafen Reserves moved to within seven points of leaders Evans & Williams Reserves following an eyecatching 4-0 win at home to West End United.

Importantly, Dafen have four games in hand in the title race.

Kieran Brown scored a couple of well-taken goals for Dafen, while also on target were Ryan Davies and William Buckingham.

Sion Jones scored all the goals as Carmarthen United beat Penllergaer 4-0.

The games in reserve division one and reserve division two were postponed, while in reserve division three in-form FC Carmarthen made it a double celebration for the club when defeating visitors CP Suburbs 7-0.

Six of the goals were shared between Tony Swift, Griff Jones and Robert Maynard. There was one for Aled Schiavone.

Jonathan Dakin, Ethan Daniels, James Hughes and Kieran Rees scored for Llangennech A in the 4-1 win at Pwll Athletic Reserves.

Jade Howells replied for Pwll.
