SNAPCHAT’S AD SHARE

Always on the lookout for ways to attract the best creators to its platform, Snapchat has come up with yet another financial boost for the most successful.

Under test at the moment is a way for mid-roll ads to appear within Snapchat Stories. So, if your Story gains a lot of traction there’s a good chance you’ll make a decent cut of the ad revenue accrued.

Snapchat will obviously take its cut, but says the metrics used to decide how much you’ll get will be based on account activity.

It’s only in the US at the moment, but it is expected to roll out globally over the coming months.

AIRTAG UPDATE

You have to hand it to Apple, it’s neither ignored nor failed to act on reports that its Airtag trackers are being used to track people’s movements against their will.

After updated usage advice last week, the iphone maker is going to change the way the trackers work in a further attempt to blunt their usability by “bad actors”.

As well as warning users at set up that tracking people without their consent is illegal, later software updates will also mean the trackers themselves will do more to alert anyone travelling with one that isn’t registered to them.

If you have an iphone 11 or later, you’ll also be able to use your phone’s precision finding to track down the device if it’s hidden somewhere… like on your car.

TAG HEUER GETS CONNECTED

Tag Heuer has unleashed the fourth version of its Connected Calibre smartwatches. There are three versions and two sizes, and all of them run on Google’s Wear OS 2 platform.

Internally, the watch now has a faster chip, and supports Bluetooth 5 for better connectivity.

Sadly there’s a drawback – the cheapest model costs £1,500… although trade-in options will reduce the costs if you have an eligible watch to exchange. tagheuer.com.

END IS NIGHT FOR GOOGLE CURRENTS

Google is planning to shut down its Currents service some time next year.

The pandemic has, of course, seen a massive rise in home working, a lot of which is reliant on Google’s Workspace, of course.

That has meant much of what took place on Currents’ communications channels switched to Google Chat and its Spaces chat room feature.
