A CARMARTHEN band is set to play one of its biggest shows to date later this month.

Welsh language rockers Adwaith will support Idles at Cardiff ’s Motorpoint Arena on Thursday, March 31.

Adwaith’s vocalist and guitarist Hollie Singer said the venue was where she saw her first big concert as a youngster and that she and the rest of the band are relishing the opportunity to step onto the stage at the 7,500-capacity arena in the heart of Cardiff.

She said: “We can’t wait to play there and are looking forward to it.

“That arena was where I saw my first big concert, so to now being one of the bands actually performing there is very special.

“It is a different feeling playing somewhere that size and the only other arena show we have done was in Russia just before the pandemic and lockdown in 2020.

“That was a showcase of Welsh bands, but getting to play an arena in Wales is a great opportunity for us.

“Our attitude is that, if we sound good in rehearsals then that’s what we bring to the gig and we go out every night with that approach, no matter the venue’s size, we give it our all.”

The original date of the show was booked for last month but hastily rescheduled as Storm Eunice struck, battering

Wales and the UK with winds over 80mph.

However, everything is back on track and Adwaith are ready to storm the stage with their post-punk mixed with indie pop sounds.

The Motorpoint arena show will see Hollie and bandmates Gwenllian Anthony (bass, keys, mandolin), and Heledd Owen (drums) showcase some new material with second album Bato Mato all set for release this summer on July 1.

Hollie said: “We will be playing our new material at the Cardiff show as well as the bangers from our repertoire.

“So it will be a chance for fans to see us in a bigger venue than usual and also let those unfamiliar with us to have a listen.”

As for the headliners, Bristol’s Idles are revered for the power of their live shows, with relentless energy and a huge sound.

The Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns gave Adwaith the time and space to get their creativity to flow into what ultimately became Bato Mato, but is was the live stages that they missed.

Hollie said: “Lockdown gave us the time to write new stuff but we missed performing. Since restrictions have lifted over the past year though we have been out there

playing live and really enjoying it again, we couldn’t wait to get back to it.”

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Adwaith are lined up to play a number of festivals this summer along with more touring in support of the new album.

Tickets for Idles and Adwaith at Cardiff Motorpoint Arena are on sale now.
