Tenants get the keys to four new housing sites

- Council leader Emlyn Dole

OVER the past few weeks I have had the pleasure of visiting four new housing sites across the county where we have been handing over keys to new tenants.

These are homes that have been newly built to a high specification, featuring solar panels and other energy-saving technology to ensure they are fit for the future and affordable to run.

And with the way living costs, in particular energy costs, are rising at the moment, I’m proud that we are doing everything we can to support our tenants to live comfortably in safe and warm homes.

As a result of our continued investment, over 100 new homes have just been made available to local families on our housing register. These families will now become neighbours and form new communities where we hope they will thrive.

And this is the crux of our ambition – last week at full council we approved a Housing Regeneration and Development Delivery Plan that will see over 2,000 additional new and affordable homes being made available across Carmarthenshire over the next five years.

This is in addition to the delivery of previous housing investment plans that have already been delivered ahead of target.

But as Cllr Linda Evans, our cabinet member for housing, said, this is not just about building houses.

Our £300million investment will also support businesses, people and places during their construction and beyond, helping support the development of strong sustainable communities where people want to live and work.

We’re proud of what we are achieving here in Carmarthenshire with ambitions that will make a difference to the lives of so many.
