Porthyrhyd and Llanddarog Pensioners Society

-

THE March meeting of the society was again held in Llanddarog Village Hall where Angela welcomed 37 members to their celebration of St David’s Day and all things Welsh.

Angela gave details of the national costume and displayed the many items from her collection.

Each costume was dependent on the area in which you lived, your occupation and situation. There were variances from county to county. Modelling her 350-year-old tall Welsh hat, Angela said in its lifetime it had travelled to many places, including the Royal Albert Hall.

Angela then sang two songs relative to the Welsh costume accompanied by Marie Seymour on piano.

Tea and pancakes followed distributed by members, with thanks to John, Angela’s husband, for the delicious pancakes freshly made.

Marie then distributed a song sheet of well-known songs Sosban Fach, Lawr ar lan y Mor, Oes Gafr Eto, Gee Geffyl Bach and Calon Lân which everyone sang with gusto, while accompanied by Marie, who was warmly thanked.

The minutes of the last meeting were read, approved and signed.

Everyone had greatly enjoyed the Carmarthen Youth Opera’s production of Grease in the Lyric Theatre.

There were a few changes to the programme planned as the speaker was unable to attend, but Jessica Coles will now speak of the brewery attached to The White Hart, members hoping there will be samples too!

Egwad then spoke of some difficulty in receiving replies from other venues and also our planned holiday to Bodelwyddan, which is probably to be in May 2023.

The meeting concluded with the Welsh national anthem.
