BIG RELIEF AS AMMANFORD CLAIM POINTS

-

AMMANFORD AFC claimed a vital three points as they defeated Undy Athletic 5-2 in JD Cymru South.

A goal after just four minutes was just the tonic the home side needed as Morgan Clarke scored with a low shot from outside the penalty area into the corner of the net.

Ammanford were dominant but squandered a host of chances, with the majority falling to young striker Tristan Jenkins, who could have been presented with the match ball at halftime.

But Ammanford went two up on 35 minutes, former Swansea City striker Lee Trundle firing home after a good run and cross from midfield ace Matthew Fisher.

Undy also had their chances in the first half, with Craig Morris making two excellent saves.

Ammanford centre-back Euros Griffiths was commanding in defence, while Owyn Airey gave an accomplished performance in midfield.

Jenkins added Ammanford’s third on the stroke of half-time, firing home off the underside of the Undy crossbar.

Ammanford were back on the front foot after the break and Jenkins made it four when he struck the ball into the corner of the Undy goal after a fantastic turn.

Richard Lewis completed Ammanford’s scoring in the 59th minute, firing the ball past the keeper after being put through.

Ammanford then took their foot off the gas, allowing Undy back into the game.

Kane Jellyman headed home from close range in the 73rd minute after beating Ammanford goalkeeper Morris to a cross.

Undy scored again from a penalty five minutes later after Morris was adjudged to have brought a player down in the area.

Oliver Smith sent Morris the wrong way with his spot-kick.

Undy pressed hard in the last 10 minutes of the game, but there were no further goals.

Ammanford have risen two places to 12th in the table. Next up is a tough trip to leaders Llantwit Major on March 26.
