Well done, ladies! Well done to the Wales Ladies’ rugby team who made such a great start to the Women’s Six Nations this season with wins against Scotland and Ireland, and were up against England on Saturday; no surprise they made such a good start, due to the fact they are coached by a former Twyn,garnant boy, Ioan Cunningham, originally of Greenfield Road!; da iawn, Ioan, a’r merched i gyd! There was also local interest in England Women’s opening matches with another Garnant girl and former Ysgol y Bedol and Amman Valley comprehens­ive pupil Lucy James Packer making an appearance­s for the Red Roses against the Italian and Scottish Women. Lucy currently plays for Harlequins Women; well done!

Bingo’s return Amman United Rugby Club are planning to restart their bingo nights on Tuesdays from April 26.

Great-grandmothe­r Many congratula­tions to Cynthia Davies, of Hendre Road, Garnant, who has just become a great-grandmothe­r for the first time following the birth of a great-granddaugh­ter, Lylah, to new parents Katie and Brandon; llongyfarc­hiadau mawr, Cynthia!

Birthday news Celebratin­g her 90th birthday on April 16 will be Garnant lady Mrs Eira Kilbane, of Folland Road; llongyfarc­hiadau i chi, Eira wrth eich holl ffrindiau. Glanamman gent Mr Eric Adams, of Lon Llwyd, also celebrates his 90th birthday this week, on April 17. Another nonogenari­an from the Cwm, Mrs Jean Jeremiah, formerly of Maesyrhend­re and Ceidrim Road, now a resident at Cartref Annwyl Fan, Betws, will be attaining her 92nd birthday during the week, on April 17. Our very best wishes also to Mr Brian Bowen, of Lower Station Road, Garnant, who will be 87 years young today; penblwydd hapus, Brian! A mere “youngster” in comparison, we also wish a happy 60th birthday tomorrow to Mrs Catrin Madge, of Highfield Road, Twyn, Garnant; dymuniadau da, Catrin!

Maundy Thursday service There will be a Maundy Thursday service at Christ Church, Garnant, tomorrow, commencing at 7pm. Please note however,that there will be no Easter Sunday service at Christ Church on Sunday, April 17, but there will be a joint service for those who wish to attend at Llanfair Church, Cwmgors, at 11am.

Day centre to reopen Garnant Day Centre closed, as did many other local facilities when the Covid pandemic struck. Now, however, news has been confirmed that at long last the day centre will be reopening on Tuesday, April 26 for two days a week to begin with and then gradually for more days over the next months. At last, a bit of normality returning, we hope!
