FISHER’S GOAL COULD BE VITAL

-

AMMANFORD came out on top in a game of few chances on their visit to play Taffs Well in JD Cymru South last Friday.

A defeat would have left Ammanford third from bottom, but the vital three points carried them up to 11th in the 16-team division.

Ammanford had the better of the play, with their best chance falling to young Tristan Jenkins, who saw his effort saved by Taffs Well goalkeeper Edward King.

The Wellmen came more into the game in the second half and they came very close to a goal when they hit a post and Ammanford managed to clear from the ensuing scramble.

Taffs Well were mostly restricted to long-range efforts as the superb Ammanford defence, well marshalled by the excellent Craig Morris, held firm.

The best of Ammanford’s chances in the second half fell to Matthew Fisher, who twice fired over the crossbar.

Ammanford were frustrated several times in the Taffs Well penalty area, with the ball not falling for them on what can best be described as a bobbly pitch.

Just as it looked as if the match was heading for a goalless draw, Fisher popped up with a low shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net to set off scenes of jubilation in front of the away dug-out among players and a large contingent of travelling fans.

Fisher got a yellow card for his celebrations.

Ammanford then saw out a period of seemingly never-ending injury time to clinch three vital points.

Ammanford have a busy Easter schedule when they take on West Wales rivals Carmarthen Town in a double-header which starts on Good Friday at the Recreation Ground in Ammanford (7.30pm), with the return fixture taking place on Easter

Monday afternoon in Carmarthen.

Bumper crowds are expected to watch the two teams battle it out.

Memories will come flooding back for Ammanford’s Black and White Army of when they visited

Carmarthen Town in the Welsh Cup and achieved a fine win in front of the S4C live cameras.
