TWO talented kickboxers from Carmarthenshire, who are more than a decade apart in age, have scooped a haul of gold medals at a top competition.

Gwenllian Carpenter, 13, from Llanelli, and 24-year-old Amy Humble, from Carmarthen, are members of the Sharks Kickboxing martial arts school which trains in Carmarthen and Gorseinon every week.

The pair represented Wales at the WKC Championship in Glasgow and fought off competitors from other nations to be crowned as winners.

Gwenllian took two gold medals and Amy took three golds across a range of kickboxing disciplines at the competition held at the city’s Emirates Arena.

Gwenllian’s mother and instructor at Shark Kickboxing, Heulwen Evans said: “They have worked so hard for this tournament and we are all very proud of them.

“Amy has been with the club for around two years and is really doing so well.

“While my daughter Gwenllian has grown up with kickboxing as I used to compete, so she’s used to seeing how competitions work and isn’t phased by any of it.

“She takes it all in her stride and has been kickboxing since she was two-and-a-half years old. My father trained me and I trained Gwenllian, so it definitely runs in the family.”

The Glasgow competition saw a long day of combat and points based judging as the duo carved through the ranks to emerge victorious.

Sharks Kickboxing classes are held at D12 gym in Myrtle Hill, Pensarn,

Carmarthen, and at Shark Tank on the Mardy Industrial Estate, Gorseinon, Swansea.

They are all family friendly classes for juniors and seniors, including light, semi and full contact Korean kickboxing.
