Spoken word fundraiser At the recently held open mic spoken word evening held at the Castle Inn and also on Zoom an amazing £200 was raised for the Ukraine appeal. The money has been specifically donated to Karmen Kafe’s efforts raising money for medical supplies required in Kiev. Thank you to all Cerddi yn Cwrw regulars who joined virtually, to the great audience in the Castle and to Paul and Klara for hosting the event. Fiesta update Plans are well in hand for a full week of fun and frolics marking the return of

Fiesta week. From July 31 to August 7 there will be something for all ages to enjoy whether creative or just wanting to have fun. Carnival day itself is on Saturday, August 6 and following the procession we will have a fun sports afternoon with various stalls. A barbecue in the village will follow and then it is into the memorial hall for the talent show. The mock mayor election will be held in the hall on Friday, August 5 and it is open to all to enter so start preparing your manifestos now. Early that week you can have a go at bingo, a general knowledge quiz or a treasure hunt. The talent show never fails to entertain and willing contributors can start thinking of what to perform. The popular scarecrow competition is back, simply create a scarecrow out of recyclables and display outside your property. The programme for the week will be finalised in the coming weeks and fliers will be unleashed on the village in early July. Lots to think about.

Evergreen meeting The May meeting will be on Wednesday, May 4 as the hall will not be available on the Thursday due to local elections. It will be at the usual time of 2pm. Evergreen members enjoyed their first meeting for over two years and many thanks to Constance Lewis for her inspired cookery demonstration. At the May meeting Mrs Davies from Age Concern will explain various benefits we may be entitled to and many have benefited from such advice in the past. Please remind others of the change of day.

Birthday news Very best wishes to Mr David Carwyn Stephens, of Gelli Fawnen Farm, Glanamman, who will be celebrating his 88th birthday on Friday.

Day centre reopens Garnant Day Centre closed, as did many other local facilities when the Covid pandemic struck. Now however, news has been confirmed that at long last the day centre will be reopening on Tuesday, April 26 for two days a week to begin with and then gradually for more days over the next months. At last,a bit of normality returning, we hope!

Competition winner Well done to Mike (“Mole”) Evans, of Glanamman, who was the winner of the recent Amman United Juniors’ Six Nations predicting competition, managing, along with nine other people, to correctly predict all but one result (nobody expected Italy to win in Cardiff!); in the end, mike’s tie-breaker won the prize.

Bereavement Our deepest condolences are expressed to all the family following the sad passing away of Glanamman lady Mrs Stephanie Davies. Stephanie died suddenly, but peacefully at her home, Tircoed Road, on March 31. She was the beloved wife of John, a devoted mother of Lisa and Carl, loving grandmother of Kace and William and dear sister of Deborah and Tracy. Sympathy to you all on your loss.

Mixed results Amman United RFC’S Juniors had a mixed day at the Carmarthenshire Finals held at Llandeilo on Sunday, April 10; Amman’s Under-13s lost in their final against Carmarthen Quins, playing well in the process. However, amman’s Under-14s went one better, managing to beat Furnace United’s youngsters to claim the trophy; da iawn, bois!

Birthday news Best wishes to Mr Carl Jeremiah, of Glanamman, who celebrated his 60th birthday on April 25.
