Hospital news Best wishes to Mr Roydon Vickers, of Derwydd Avenue, GCG, who is in hospital at the time of writing.

GCG OAP branch will be holding their next monthly meeting on Thursday, May 5 at Gwaun cae Gurwen Community Centre, Old Road, at 2pm. Spring craft fayre Y Lolfa/gwaun cae Gurwen Library will be holding a spring craft fayre this Saturday.

Beach visit On Friday, as part of GCG School’s themed work next term, ie “Off we go on the Magic Carpet”, based on Welsh people’s holidays visits and days out, pupils will be off to Aberavon Beach and park. We will also be studying other countries and where they holiday and visit during the term. At Aberavon, the children will be enjoying sausage and chips, juice and ice cream for their lunch on the day.

A slice of “normality“?! Gwaun cae Gurwen prides itself on its close links to our community. This includes links to the governors, organisations that offer services to the community, like the library, and links with all the parents and families. A real effort has been made over the past two years to maintain these relationships, despite restrictions, meaning people were unable to come physically to the school. Now, with restrictions all but disappearing, the school wants to take advantage of the new “freedoms” and have a series of events planned over the summer to invite parents back in to school so we can again feel like a proper community. Forthcoming summer dates include: Volunteer gardening morning (Saturday, May 14) details to follow; summer fayre (Thursday, June 16); sports days for all pupils on June 23 and 24. Back to a slice of normality!

Cylch Ti a Fi The Cylch begins at GCG School on May 5; they are now asking for any old toys, books and any equipment that you may have lying around the house as donations to the new Cylch. The items need to be suitable for babies/toddlers aged 0 to four. The children can bring them in to school during the first week back after the holidays. Thank you for your support. The sessions will be £2 each, every Thursday (1.30pm to 2.45pm), although booking is essential. Sympathy Cwmgors RFC have expressed their sincerest condolences to Caron Jones and family following the sad recent loss of Caron’s father. Get well soon Cwmgors Rugby Club have also, along with his numerous friends, wished Roy Vickers a full and speedy recovery following his recent accident. Gwella’n gloi ac yn llawn, Roy. Proud Cwmgors RFC was so proud that six of the Bryngors team’s youngsters made the Dinefwr semi-final squad that played in the Dewar Shield against Rhondda at Briton Ferry last week.
