Llanelli hit for six as Drovers bag derby scalp

-

LLANDOVERY scored six tries as they claimed a 36-29 win at Llanelli in the Indigo Group Premiership.

The result means Llanelli will finish bottom of the table. They have won just one of their 11 matches.

Llandovery, meanwhile, will finish in the top half of the table and could end the season as high as third if results go their way.

They face Bridgend in their final game of the campaign at Church Bank on Saturday.

Llandovery got off to a fine start at Parc y Scarlets as hooker Craig Thomas crossed for the opening try.

The home side responded in style with an excellent try by Ryan Jenkins which was converted by Tal Rees.

Llandovery soon took command with Thomas pouncing for his second try. No. 8 Joe Powell then got in on the act after good work by back-row colleague Jordan Evans as the visitors opened up a 15-7 lead.

But Llanelli were determined to finish their season with a bang and a flowing move ended with flanker Luca Giannini scoring wide out.

However, the final try of an entertaining first half went to Llandovery’s Lee Rees. Kristian Jones added the conversion.

The first score of the second period went the way of the hosts, with Rees on target with a penalty.

But from there Llandovery pulled away as they opened up a commanding advantage.

Their fifth try was scored by replacement Ashley Evans, with Jones again adding the extras.

And home hopes were dealt a further blow when Ashleigh Hyndman was sent off.

Llandovery took full advantage with Jamie Cox getting a try. Jones converted.

But the 14 men gave the Drovers a major fright as they scored two tries in the closing minutes. Rhys Davies bagged the first and Archie Hughes the second, with Ioan Hughes converting both.
