EMLYN WIN IS A MAJOR TITLE BOOST

-

NEWCASTLE Emlyn remain in pole position in Admiral National League One West after another superb display at the weekend.

The Teifisiders eased to a 64-28 victory at Pembroke as they went two points clear at the top of the table.

Yr Hendy are second after beating Gorseinon 24-10. But they only have one game remaining while Emlyn have three.

Emlyn’s biggest challengers for the title could well be Llangennech.

They are three points adrift following their 29-7 defeat of Penclawdd, but they also have three matches left to play.

Whitland edged out Llanelli Wanderers 29-28 in a mid-table clash, while Crymych lost at Aberystwyth.

Brynaman remain without a win in One West Central after they lost 6018 at Bridgend Athletic.

Pontyberem lost 41-7 at home to Milford Haven in the only game in Two West.

Trimsaran remain in the hunt for the Three West B crown after beating Llandybie 45-27.

They are just two points adrift of Tumble, with both sides having one more game to play.

New Dock Stars won 27-26 at Penygroes.

Betws, playing their second match in four days following a midweek loss at Llandeilo, bounced back superbly to earn a deserved 15-14 victory at Amman United.

The visitors soaked up early pressure and on their first real venture into Amman territory, lock Macaulay Collins crashed over for the opening try.

Betws increased their lead when captain and No. 8 Gareth Comley went over on 20 minutes. Fly-half Josh Jewell converted.

Amman hit back when good pressure near the corner created an opening for Alex Williams to snipe over for a try.

Amman lost Daniel James to injury before centre Tom Caddell reduced Betws’s lead with a penalty on 50 minutes, and he did it again on the hour to make it 11-10 as Betws began giving away penalties.

Try-scorer Collins was replaced by Anthony Drew, and it was his pinched line-out ball that put his side on to the attack before replacement Justin Williams broke through for a third Betws try.

Tom Caddell’s long-range penalty brought Amman to within a point, but they were unable to further breach a disciplined Betws rearguard, who held out for a deserved derby win.

Betws host Furnace United on Saturday.

Cwmgors lost 19-10 at home to Nantymoel in Three West Central A.

Despite another battling display at Parc y Werin, it was Cwmgors’s eighth league defeat from 10 starts.

The home side had the wind in the first half but had their defences breached on 20 minutes when the visitors crossed for the opening try. A penalty try followed on the half-hour mark as Cwmgors fell further behind, but they got on the scoreboard before half-time when Andrew Mason landed a penalty.

The Cwmgors defence cracked for the third time early in the second half, but they had the final word when some excellent driving work by their forwards was rewarded with a try for Mike Jones.

Cwmgors end their league campaign with a home fixture against Abercrave on May 7.

In Three West Central C, Pantyffynnon won at Fall Bay, but Penybanc were beaten at South Gower.
