REDS MAINTAIN TITLE CHARGE

TOP met bottom in the first division of the Llanelli Snooker League, and the result went the way of the form book as Matchroom Reds beat Ponthenri Social 5-2.

The victory came courtesy of Justin Thomas, Jay Davies, Lewis Grey and Richard Evans. Jeff Howells and Kevin Lewis replied for the home side.

Dai Roberts’s fine 61 break proved the only highlight for Matchroom Whites, who suffered a 6-1 loss at Pontyberem Workmen’s. Damien Lonergan, Kevin Evans, Kevin Selwood, Karl Goble and Alun Harries all won for Pontyberem.

Reading Room Blues went one better, dishing out a 7-0 hammering to Burry Port Legion as Adrian Gower, Peter Kelly, Neil Roberts, Leighton Jones, Steve Greaney and James Ellis triumphed in a clean sweep.

Chris Griffiths was Pontarddul­ais Workmen’s sole frame-winner in a 6-1 reverse at Llanesco, whose winning quintet were Mark Stevenson, Ants Pritchard, Luke Lloyd, Peter Shoulder and Corey Rees.

Llanelli Cons A were aggregate 4-3 winners against Gorseinon Workmen’s after Mike Moore, Mike Rees and Gavin Quinnell had won.

Mike Dodd, Jordan Davies and Charlie Bolton hit back for the Brighton Road side.

Upper Tumble Blues were 5-2 victors at Morfa. Mark Hughes, Shaun Lewis, James Bradley and Nicki Walters won as Nicky Hughes and Barry Follows hit back for the hosts.

In division two, Gremlin Club suffered a surprise 6-1 defeat at Llandybie RFC, whose frame-winners were Joshua Jordan, Liam Mcghee, Steffan Crump, Joshua Cranfield and Kalem James. Only Ryan Burt replied for high-flying Gremlin.

Following a 4-3 win against Bryn A, Tycroes RFC came back to earth with a bump as they were beaten 7-0 at Pontarddul­ais Cons. Mark Aberstraw, David Gabe, Rob Davey, Will Shadrach (25 break), Keith Williams and Tony Shadrach were all victorious.

CGMD enjoyed a 4-3 victory against New Lodge thanks to the efforts of Matthew Jones, James Varney and Mike Llewelyn. For Lodge, Martin Tucker (35), Andrew John and Phil Eyers were on song.

Burry Port Reading Room Reds edged a 4-3 win at Upper Tumble Reds thanks to Chris Hurley, John Dean and Phil Payne. For the home side, Mike Sainty, Alan Griffiths and Steff Lewis struck.

It also needed the aggregate to separate the sides as Snooker World Blues won 4-3 at Llandybie Social courtesy of Peter Howatson, Callum Fuge and Jac Evans.

For the Social, John Poole, Howard Wood and Steve Pearson won frames.

Bryn & Trallwm A were 5-2 winners at Cross Hands A as Justin Jones, Josh Townsend, Corrie Jenkins and Clive Richards won.

Matthew James and Gerald Evans were successful for the home side.

Matchroom Whites reached the final of the Worthingto­n Cup after beating Gremlin Club 5-2 in the semis.

Chris Davies (48), Leighton Davies, Wayne Bowen and Ashley Edwards all won. Lee Collins won for Gremlin Club, as did Ray Barney, who pipped Tyler Rees (48).*
