Llandeilo and District Gardening Club

-

LLANDEILO and District Gardening club have been meeting up during the summer months.

In May they held an evening meeting with guest speaker Andrew Wyton and members of other gardening clubs.

Andrew spoke to them about gardens lost and found. He gave members much to think about concerning altered gardens, some vanished, some mere ghosts of their illustrious past, and others erased by fashion.

In June a group visited Colby Woodland Gardens on one of many hot dry days of this summer. They found some welcome shade under trees and some sea air at Amroth.

They had a delightful summer picnic on July 7. The weather was kind, the conversation was convivial, and the dusk settled comfortably over the company.

There was a gentle quiz in the form of some flower identification, helped along with clues! The potato challenge was weighed, the vote for the best petunia was taken and the results announced.

Raymond Taylor won the potato trophy, beating last year’s winner Hugh Simpson by a mere few grams. Raymond also had the most votes for best petunia.

There will be a break in August, though the club will have a table at Llandeilo Show encouraging members to join, and they will be back on the first Thursday in September at their usual venue of the Vestry, Capel Newydd, Crescent Road, Llandeilo, with a talk from the Bumble Bee Conservation Trust. Do come and join us there.

Llandeilo and District Gardening Club meet on the first Thursday of the month at the Vestry, Capel Newydd, Crescent Road, Llandeilo, SA19 6HN at 7.30pm. For more information visit our website http:// llandeilogardeningclub.co.uk or contact Stella@rhydgoch.co.uk 01558 668339
