Davies is a six-shooter as Llandeilo stun leaders

LLANDEILO pulled off an excellent win as they knocked Aberdare Seconds off the top of division four of the South Wales Cricket Associatio­n.

Aberdare won the toss and elected to field in damp conditions.

Batting was difficult and Llandeilo quickly found themselves at 25-3.

However, Dafydd Jones and captain Rob Davies came together to put on a partnershi­p of 54.

Davies eventually fell for 31, while Caradog Davies added 13.

Llandeilo batted through their overs and finished on 125-9, with Jones falling in the last over just one short of his half-century.

Aberdare’s Mike Roberts returned 5-22 from his eight overs.

In response, Llandeilo opening bowlers Anthony James and Caradog Davies bowled excellent spells which piled the pressure on Aberdare.

James finished his eight overs without a wicket but having bowled five maidens and conceded just six runs.

Davies claimed 2-6 from his eight-over spell.

But the star of the show was Llew Davies, whose devastatin­g six-over spell saw him claim 6-10.

Hayden Hatfield took 2-8 and Aberdare were dismissed for 41, giving Llandeilo victory by 84 runs.

Maesteg Seconds are the new leaders after they beat GWR Bridgend by seven wickets.

Llandeilo travel to Swansea Civil Service on Saturday.

Llangennec­h Seconds are third in the table after a comfortabl­e home win against Llantwit Major Cavaliers.

The hosts were grateful to Mike Lloyd (67no) and Jack Page (31no) as they made 134-5 in 32 overs.

Llantwit then limped to 94-9 in their 32 overs, Page taking 3-13.

Kidwelly enjoyed a comfortabl­e 128-run win over Neath Thirds.

Leighton Walters top-scored with 57 for the Gwendraeth Valley side. Dean Thomas added 51 and Dan Brown 48.

Neath were then dismissed for 97 as Thomas completed a fine day by taking 3-26.

In division seven, Ben Ledger’s 119 not out (16 fours and two sixes) and Geraint Rees with 78 (11 fours) helped Ammanford side Wildboars to 264-3 against Gowerton Thirds.

In reply, Dominic Kennedy (43) top-scored but Jason Rosser (3-32) and a brace of wickets each for Rees and Paul Griffiths restricted Gowerton to 148-8.
