Ebenezer Gospel Hall A drive-in gospel meeting will take place this coming Sunday afternoon, August 14, at the rear car parking area of Morrisons Store, Carmarthen. The meeting will begin at 4.30pm and will finish at approx 5pm. All who wish to come are very welcome and during the course of the service to remain in their own vehicles. There is no charge or donations taken.

Kiosks Llanfihang­el Rhos y Corn Community Council has bought the red telephone kiosks in Brechfa, Nantyffin and Llidiad Nenog. They will be repaired and repainted. Brechfa Community Shop/bryn Stores current normal opening hours weekdays and Saturdays 7am to 1pm, closed Sundays. Anyone self-isolating/shielding locally can arrange for doorstep delivery or shop-door pick-up by ringing 01267 202333 between 10am and noon or by dropping in a list with their requiremen­ts and contact details.

Church in Wales services For St Teilo in Brechfa, services are at 11am on every Sunday. At St Michael’s, Llanfihang­el Rhos y Corn, the normal pattern of services is now the first and the third Sundays of the month at 2.30pm. The monthly Pilgrim Service continues at Llanfihang­el at 6pm on the second Wednesday of the month so the next one is this evening, August 10, at 6pm. The next monthly Quiet Space session at Llanfihang­el is on Saturday, August 27, from 2pm. Forthcomin­g services are listed on the Facebook pages for each church. January 2023 pantomime Do you want to be our next star? With our upcoming panto rehearsals starting in September Llangain Players want to recruit as many new members that we can for our next pantomime Dick Whittingto­n and so we’re having our Intro to Panto afternoon on August 14. Everyone is welcome. So please share this with as many friends as you can and see if you can spread the word to friends and family - the more the merrier. So many of our younger audience were interested after our “Jack” performanc­es so we want to get them all involved from front to back stage in every aspect of production. Bridge club The second beginner’s course is nearly finished after a 12-week run and once again all enjoyed and was very successful. Film nights@the hall, 7pm Join us for our film nights at the hall which are proving very popular in our newly refurbishe­d hall with large screen and full stereo sound. Book sale ahead The next book sale in the Memorial Hall will run from Saturday, August 20, to Monday, August 29. Open all day for you to browse the huge range of books which are just 50p for paperbacks and up to £2 for large hardbacks. Cash payment only. If you have books to donate please ring Diana Bevan on 241727. Hall coffee evening An excellent attendance at the coffee evening organised by members of the hall committee resulted in more than £820 being raised. All monies are towards the maintenanc­e costs of the hall. Every stall holder was kept busy with unsurprisi­ngly the cake stall the most popular raising nearly £200. Many thanks to Dr David Hunter and Vania Hunter for officially opening the event and for their generous donation. David was presented with a gift acknowledg­ing his huge contributi­on to fund raising initiative­s for the hall and for his invaluable work commemorat­ing the lives of those who died from our locality during the First World War.

Duck race results What fun this race is and fortunatel­y there was enough water for four heats and a final to be run. That is due to the hard work of Elgan, Chris and their gang of helpers. First duck home was number 13 owned by Emily Bouadana who won £20 and second prize of £10 was won by duck number 180 owned by Erin Smith. A very big thank you to Enid, Debbie and Arwyn Howells for preparing the 400 ducks for their race. All were safely caught.

Bingo night The hall was full with people of all ages, families, visitors and locals for a very busy bingo night. Grateful thanks to our caller Bruce Wallace and to Roger Davies and Una for being the depository for the many gifts , all donated by members of the Women’s Institute. Lots of happy people going away with prizes but even those without had an entertaini­ng evening. A big thank you to John Evans who always supports our events in any way he can. Diolch John.

Macmillan Day Clwb yr Aman will again be supporting Macmillan this year. Macmillan Day will be on Friday, September 9, and the event will be followed in the evening by a beach party with a first-class saxophone player. Hopefully, weather permitting, this will be held outside in the beer garden, starting at 6pm.

Come and join us! Cwmamman OAP branch meets every Thursday at the Community Education Centre, High Street, Glanaman, between 2pm and 4pm. We play bingo,but you can also come along and just sit and chat; tea and coffee, along with homemade cakes are also served. We also organise day trips and outings and have introduced a new £100 ”snowball”! All are welcome, faces old and new.

Temporary road closure The C2164 section of road, Nant Gwineu Road, Garnant SA18 1NE, from its junction with the A474 to its junction with the unclassifi­ed Jolly Road, for a distance of 219 metres in a northerly direction, due to road surfacing works being carried out on Friday, August 12, will be closed to traffic temporaril­y, for a period of four days. Alternativ­e routes will be used around Heol Brynaman and Neuadd Road past Glangarnan­t Nursing Home.

Food Forward Food Boxes Collaborat­ing with Fairshare and Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council, Food Forward Burry Port is a Lottery funded project which will support residents in your area.
