People are trying to ignore a problem but it isn’t going to go away. There are ways to remedy this situation. You will prefer to face it head on and sort this out before it gets out of control. Even if you don’t get any help to do so, you will deal with it and you will do so in a cool and critical fashion.

Neath-based Theatr na nóg will be staging Operation Julie – A Rock Musical at The Lyric Theatre in Carmarthen from Wednesday, August 31, to Friday, September 2.

The musical, which has already had a successful run at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, centres around a famous West Wales drugs bust which made international headlines back in the 1970s.

The theatre staff tell me all performances are now sell-outs, but you may be able to apply for some late returns.

Meanwhile, the countdown is well and truly on to Côr Meibion Llanelli’s welcome return to the concert stage. Vri ‘boys’ will be topping the bill at a charity concert at Morfa Social Club, affectionately known by all in Llanelli as ‘The Tin Hut’.

It is being held at 7pm on Saturday, September 10. All proceeds will go to the Llanelli Hospital Charity (Prince Philip Hospital) and the Wales Air Ambulance.

Supporting the choir will be Côr Curiad ladies choir and well-known west Wales band Otherside.

Tickets are £7 and available from any Côr Meibion Llanelli chorister or via the following phone numbers - 01554 741027, 01554 749556, 01554 810004.

Finally, two groups of musicians who have made a significant impact on the Welsh traditional folk music scene will come together for a concert at Theatr Gwaun this Saturday (September 3) at 7.30pm as part of the Fishguard Festival of Music.

They are Jordan Price Williams (cello, voice), Aneirin Jones (fiddle, voice) and Patrick Rimes (viola, fiddle, voice). They are already members of other established bands on the traditional music circuit – Calan, Elfen and No Good Boyo.

Pedair draws on the talents of four of Wales’ most prominent and award-winning folk artists: Gwenan Gibbard, Gwyneth Glyn, Meinir Gwilym and Siân James. Ground breaking international artists in their own right, all four thrive on collaboration and bring to life traditional material with new arrangements on harps, guitars, piano and accordion.

Gillian Green, artistic director of Fishguard and West Wales International Music Festival, said: “This concert is sure to capture the imagination of the audience with sweeping harmonies, creative synergy and fresh interpretations of Welsh folk music. It will be an evening to remember.”

“Vri will also participate in free outdoor performances the following day at Lower Town Quay, Fishguard at 8am and at Oriel y Parc in St Davids at 2pm. People of all ages, babies, toddlers and dogs can attend and audiences can ‘dip-in ‘ to the concert as they wish. The performance at Lower Town Quay will again take place at 8am and attendees enjoy the atmosphere which this time of day and the location brings.”

Tickets for the Theatr Gwaun concert are priced £15 with concessions of £5 for under 18s and £1 for under 12s. Outdoor concerts are free.

Tickets available for all events at www.fishguardmusicfestival.com.
