Through woodland to the coast

-

ON Saturday, Barbara Strobel led the Carmarthen Ramblers on a five mile circular walk in the Amroth area with a threat of heavy rain in the weather forecast.

The walk started from the National Trust car park at Colby Woodland Garden from which members followed the Knight’s Way footpath through attractive woodland down to the coast at Amroth.

After a group photo by the shore, they continued on the Wales Coast Path, climbing sharply up a set of steps onto the clifftop at Tinkers Hill, and then continuing on to arrive at Wiseman’s Bridge. Here their route turned inland, and there was a mile of easy walking as they followed the line of an old tramway along Pleasant Valley.

After a pleasant lunch they followed a footpath uphill to emerge onto a lane which they followed until they turned left onto a track at Green Plains. This path took them past Cwmrath Farm and then onto a lane north of Summerhill. Turning right onto this lane they soon reached a track which led them through Colby Woodland to Colby Lodge where the promised rain finally began. A very short stroll in the rain took them back to the starting point.

The group’s next walk is on Sunday, September 11, when Carolyn Hills will lead an eight-mile walk from Newcastle Emlyn to Cenarth Falls and return.
