Seaside walk on lovely autumn day

-

ON Saturday, Carys and Colin Thomas-ray led the Carmarthen Ramblers on a seven-mile circular walk in the Tenby area in lovely autumn weather.

The walk started from the large car park at North Beach in Tenby. They walked along the road for a short distance and turned onto a bridleway which they followed uphill for about three-quarters of a mile to emerge onto farm fields where they paused for a group photo.

Then they made their way down through a housing estate to locate a footpath which led them through attractive woodland to the ruins of Scotsborough House, which, as Carys explained, had a sad and spooky history as it was last occupied in 1824 when an epidemic of small pox broke out, with only a few survivors managing to flee the house.

They continued on footpaths through woodland and fields to arrive at the Kiln Park Holiday Centre, where they enjoyed walking through the park as well as through the impressive remains of the extensive old lime kilns located there. The footpath then led them across sand dunes down to the coast, where they stopped to have lunch on South Beach.

After lunch they walked southwest along the beach on the Wales Coast Path, and then turned inland to walk to Penally. They went through the village, admiring the large well-kept houses, and then took a footpath leading back to the sea where they turned onto the Coast Path and followed it into Tenby. They then had an interesting walk through the busy town, with excellent views of the harbour and beaches along the sea front.

The group’s next walk is on Sunday, when Sarah Rees and Barbara Strobel will lead a ninemile walk in the Aberaeron area.
