Author to read her memoir

-

Gower-based author Julie Ann Rees will be reading from and discussing her memoir Paper Horses, upstairs at Goldstone Books, Carmarthen from 7pm on Wednesday, October 5.

Julie defines herself as a ‘horse person’ and trained in classical riding and still rides for pleasure.

Her memoir recounts moving to the South of France with her ‘perfect prince’ and her horses to set up a trail-riding business, only for her dream to turn into a nightmare.

Through social isolation, devastating bush fires and even a spell in a French jail, Paper Horses paints a raw and honest portrayal of life in a psychologically abusive relationship, and how the love for her child and her horses gave Julie the strength to survive.

Award winning author Carly Holmes said: “Paper Horses is a brave, insightful and compassionate account of love and betrayal, and of just how resilient the human spirit is when it has to be.

“A magical blend of the horrors of a grim reality and the fantastical, life-saving inner world of a soul who will not surrender, it’s deeply touching and ultimately uplifting.”
