Amman get off the mark with bonus-point triumph

-

AMMAN United claimed their first win of the Three West B season when they saw off Bynea 36-14.

The game exploded into life just before the break, at which point it was still 0-0. But Bynea, who had lost Corey Butler and Jamie Thomas to injury, finally cracked as Amman opened the scoring.

It came as Joel Foster and Alun Lewis combined to put flanker Rhydian Jones in for the opening try, which Tom Caddell converted. A frustrating few minutes for the visitors was compounded when a quick penalty from scrum-half Foster saw him smuggle himself over the line for a second try.

Amman grabbed a bonus point when the excellent George Clarke went over for another score.

But Bynea were always a threat and carved out an excellent try when wing Nathan Baker finished off a well-worked move which fly-half Finlay Cook converted.

Amman hit back when Dan Jones went over. Bynea responded through a Tom Badger try, but the hosts had the final word when the industrious Rhydian Jones crossed for the final score of the game.

Amman face a tough trip to Tumble on Saturday, while Bynea host New Dock Stars.

Meanwhile, Cwmgors beat Baglan 29-7 in Three West Central.

Jordan Smith opened the scoring for Gors with a penalty. He was soon on the scoresheet again, picking up a loose ball and galloping the length of the pitch for a fine opportunist try which he converted himself.

The home side continued their dominance after the break. Owen Davies’s superb run from inside his own half resulted in another fine solo try, before he turned provider when he put Louis Ford over. A Smith conversion made it 22-0.

The bonus-point try was earned as Davies went over for his second of the afternoon. Baglan grabbed a late converted try for their efforts.

Cwmgors face a trip to unbeaten Nantymoel on Saturday.
