Clive James was part of the famous Cambridge Footlights group along with writers Germaine Greer, left, and Sir Salman Rushdie. It was during his time at Cambridge University that his writing skills began to be noticed and the avuncular Australian was equally at ease presenting prime time TV shows and penning poetry for literary journals.
